Side by Side - Jay Landers
It was January, 1958. My parents, Frank and Marilyn Landers, set me on a path with a decade of unselfish devotion and financial sacrifice in order to develop my musical education and experience. My grandparents, Emil and Mary Pormann and Herman and Agnes Lee, were also encouraging and financially supportive.

I never put down the accordion, During college, career pursuits, marriage and children, I continued to play - regularly practicing and performing in public.

Fast forward to 2001. I thought the accordion was REALLY DEAD! The Internet proved otherwise. I was overwhelmed by the discovery of the number of accordion websites and the continued publishing and manufacturing activity in support of the accordion in the USA and round the world.

I eventually connected with Gary Dahl as I began to acquire accordion arrangements. Gary's talent, guidance and advice have had a tremendous influence on me as a player.

Gary led me to John Castiglione and the Excelsior 960 accordion. It's a magnificent instrument... and it;s affordable, too.

Ron Ostromecki engraves Gary Dahl's manuscripts. This association has led to my discovery of "lost" musical gems such as Henry Mancini's "Cool Shade of Blue". Ron also urged me to take a close look at Frank Marocco's "In Walked Wolfie".

Bob Rucker, proprietor of Redbone Studio in my hometown, Louisville, KY, has been so much more than a recording engineer. He's a co-producer of this CD... a great friend... and a talented bass player!

"Side by Side" is my very first solo recording. This CD places the acoustic accordion alongside its MIDI capabilities. It's a showcase for the new, cutting edge accordion arrangements beside a sampling of previous masters. Finally, this recording is an attempt to pay homage to some of the most significant people in my life.

Most of all I'm grateful for the understanding my wife, Pat, and children, Christopher, Ryan and Kelly, have shown me all the years they've put up with "my accordion and me". This CD is being released in June, 2003. Pat celebrates her birthday this month, so track 4 has a special meaning.
